The Horizons Project
Who We Are
Discover the story, values and ideas behind The Horizons Project. Horizons is being built around a simple belief: people are more likely to keep moving forward when support continues between the moments when formal services are present.
Our story
The Horizons Project began with a recurring observation: many people do not struggle because they lack ability or intention. They struggle because maintaining progress becomes difficult when life is unstable, overwhelming or uncertain.
Appointments can provide advice, treatment, decisions and plans. But much of everyday change happens afterwards, in the hours and days when someone has to remember the next step, manage competing pressures and continue engaging with the support already available.
Horizons is developing as a non-clinical, relational bridge during that space between appointments. Its purpose is not to take over, but to help people hold onto progress, rebuild confidence and continue moving forward.
What we believe
Purpose matters
Progress becomes easier to maintain when people can connect their actions to something meaningful in their own lives.
Small steps matter
Sustainable change is often built through manageable actions repeated over time, rather than dramatic changes made all at once.
Relationships matter
Respect, consistency and trust can make it easier for someone to remain engaged when circumstances become difficult.
Independence matters
Good support should strengthen confidence and capability, then reduce naturally as someone becomes more able to sustain their own momentum.
The idea of Momentum
Momentum is the central practice idea behind Horizons. It describes steady progress maintained through small, realistic actions, even when circumstances are changing.
Momentum does not assume that progress will always be smooth or linear. A person may pause, struggle or need to reconsider their direction without losing everything they have already achieved.
- Reduce the distance between intention and action.
- Make the next step clearer and more manageable.
- Support continuity when motivation or confidence changes.
- Recognise progress without demanding perfection.
- Help people develop their own sustainable momentum over time.
How Horizons is developing
The Horizons Project is being developed carefully rather than rushed into delivery. Its model is evolving through research, reflective practice, governance work and conversations with people who understand community support, counselling, safeguarding and organisational development.
